For the first time in a long time, I think I would [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] be [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] willing toswitch back to an Intel processor. Although my preference is notfor dual core, if I had or needed to switch I would certainly gostraight for the Pentium D.
Computer cores have [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] been increasing in speed, and increasinglyquickly. Manufacturers were in a race to have the chip with thefastest speed, measured in GHz. One surprise is that despitethese increases [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in clock speed, the actual speed [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of programsdidn't increase proportionately.
Dual core processors were the answer.
Unlike the multitasking environment that is usual for a computereither at home [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] or at the office, games rely on the brute forceof a powerful processor to help them along. So far there is notechnology to take advantage of the two processors, like theability to split its tasks over two cores. Most gaming has notimproved with this new [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] technology.
As modern programs make much heavier use of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] consideringhow much you would pay for the top of the line single coreprocessor.
The price might be justified if the AMD actually gave asignificant performance boost, but it doesn't.
So for those who are looking for the next cool thing for theirdesktop computer and price is not a huge issue, this would beyour best choice, but go for the lower end Pentium D.
The price of the AMD is surprising. From a company that becamerenowned for it's low cost, high performance processors this isquite a blow. Even the upper model of the Pentium Ds comes in atless [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] that AMD's cheapest model.
It too is based on the same core as its single core cousins andalso offers the same performance increases.
By putting two "brain" parts into the processor, you can run twoprograms on two cores, without having to share it between [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] them. The effect of this is that when running two or more programs, the processor can now handle much more as a whole.
Considering how powerful processors have become I would stillnot make the switch. Dual core has not been around long enoughto produce low cost, slightly out of date models. The power ofthe AMD Athlon 64 3000+ [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] more than does it for my computingneeds, and that's where I would stay [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for now.
Most of the talk going on in the computer processor industry isrevolving around dual core processors. But what advantages dothey actually give and is it worth it in terms of price?
And finally, how do they compare to their now out of datetraditional processors?
The AMD Athlon X2 is AMD's [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] market.Unlike the Pentium D its lowest priced model comes in at astaggering $400. It's not expensive compared to processors likeits FX series, which are over $1000, but in comparison to Intelit's expensive.
All processors have a core. A processor contains some memory, often referred to as cache, either L1, L2 or L3, depending onhow close it is to the core, and the core itself, as well as afew other essentials. The core is the "brain" part, it performsall the big calculations that are needed for the various thingsa computer does.
As with processors in the past the mainstream of dual coreprocessors is dominated by the two big guys, Intel and AMD.
