MythBusters guys to experiment with you
Are elephants really afraid of mice? Will mixing beer with liquor make you sick? If you flung feces into a fan, would it go everywhere?
TV's MythBusters duo counted on audience participation Saturday night at the USF Sun Dome. That "hitting the fan" situation is one of nearly 700 myths they've tackled since the show's 2003 premiere.
"MythBusters: Behind the Myths" is an evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, and behind-the-scenes stories. With this show, for the first time, fans join Jamie and Adam on stage and assist in their mind-blowing and mind-twisting approach to science.
During "MythBusters: Behind the Myths" the audence became face-to-face with the curious world of Jamie and Adam as the duo matches wits on stage with each other and members of the audience. Last winter and spring, the show performed a 28-city national tour.
One of the Discovery Channel's most highly regarded and watched series, "MythBusters" is now in its ninth season. The co-hosts "mix scientific method with gleeful curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity" to create their own signature style of not-your-typical-classroom experimentation. The guys are able to support or debunk urban myths.
Here's some stuff you might want to know about Jaime and Adam:
Hailing from Indiana farm country,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], JAMIE HYNEMAN is a multifaceted man: He's been a wilderness survival expert, boat captain, diver, linguist,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], animal wrangler, machinist and cook, to name but a few.
Jamie earned a degree in Russian languages and ran a sailing/diving charter business in the Caribbean for several years before he moved over to the visual-effects industry. After working for several special-effects companies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jamie found his way to Colossal Pictures' model shop, where he managed the production of models and special effects for hundreds of commercials and movies. Then, 18 years ago, Jamie took over the shop and created M5 INDUSTRIES INC.
Jamie has worked on more than 800 commercials for major automobile manufacturers, soft-drink companies, athletic shoes and numerous other products. And in the midst of all this activity, Jamie's company diversified into toy prototyping and research and development in a variety of other areas as well. The holder of several patents and the winner of numerous industry awards, Jamie is also a long-standing Screen Actors Guild member.
Today,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while MythBusters occupies the majority of Jamie's professional activity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], M5 is actively developing cutting edge technologies for a variety of industries, ranging from defense to green vehicle design.
ADAM SAVAGE has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real. He's built everything from ancient Buddhas to futuristic weapons, from spaceships to dancing vegetables, from fine art sculptures to animated chocolate - and just about anything else you can think of.
The son of a filmmaker/painter and a psychotherapist, Adam has been making his own toys since he was allowed to hold scissors. Having held positions as a projectionist,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], animator, graphic designer, carpenter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], interior and stage designer, toy designer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], welder,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and scenic painter, he's worked with every material and in every medium he could fathom - metal, paper, glass, plastic, rubber, foam,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], plaster, pneumatics, hydraulics, animatronics, neon, glassblowing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mold-making and injection molding to name just a few.
Not only has he worked and consulted in the research and development division for toy companies and made several short films, but Adam has also acted in several films and commercials - including a Charmin ad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in which he played Mr. Whipple's stock boy, and a Billy Joel music video, "Second Wind," in which he drowns.
Today, in addition to co-hosting MythBusters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Adam teaches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lectures and consults on a variety of topics to students, business folks and everyday Joes. Somehow he also finds time to devote to his own art - his sculptures have been showcased in over 40 shows in San Francisco, New York and Charleston,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], West Virginia.
Adam and Jamie hosted the Discovery Channel special "iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World," and have appeared on numerous shows like "Late Show with David Letterman," "Good Morning America," "The Colbert Report," NPR's "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition," and many more.
