What's a reasonable clothing budget
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my clothing budget (for a family of 4) under $250/month. This year alone we've spent somewhere around $580 on just shoes. I have a middle schooler and his sneakers average around $65 a pair and my DH's shoes average around $100.
Do those of you with such small clothing budgets rarely shop? Even at $250/month I still feel like I never have enough clothes. I've only bought myself one pair of boots this year for about $60 (on sale) and a pair of sneakers for $65 so it's not like I'm out shopping constantly. I bought my last winter coat 2 years ago from J Crew factory for around $150 and don't plan on buying another coat until next year.
I spend maybe $60/month on clothes only if we absolutely need them and always try to resell. My DH's casual shoes usually last about 2-3 years, but his shoes for work don't last as long. I stocked up at Children's Place for my daughter's jeans when they were on sale for $7.99. I think I bought like 10 or 11 pair in two different sizes so she can grow into them and be set until next fall. Her shirts are usually only about $4 or so, but she's so inexpensive becuase she is young.
For my son I usually buy him 3 pairs of sneakers to start the school year with and then another pair in the spring and some sandals for the summer. He really isn't into clothes like most boys, but he does care about his shoes and they are usually $50-75 a pair.
