10 Director's Unknown Cameos In Movies
During a directorial career,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which spanned 50 years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, made sometimes subtle, sometimes scene-stealing cameos in 37 of his own pictures. (Counting his vocal-only narration at the beginning of 1956 The Wrong Man.)
Hitchcock wasn the first director to move out from behind the camera,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but he became the most well-known for that particular trick; so much so in fact that he felt during a certain point in his career,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that if he didn appear early in the film, the audience would be too invested in spotting his entrance to give their full attention to the story.
10. Steven Spielberg The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) Spielberg was no stranger to the coy cameo by 1997,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but we chose this role because of its subtlety (he is shown only in the reflection of a television screen watching a live CNN feed) and for its obvious symbolism (he munching on popcorn in the arguably biggest Movie of that year.)
9. Wes Craven New Nightmare (1994)Many fans of the original Nightmare on Elm Street were horrified at the subsequent sequels but unfortunately not in the good way. Many decried Freddy had become increasingly jokey, and lacked his original menace. When Wes Craven decided to direct and also write,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], New Nightmare an audible scream delight swept through the purist corner of the horror genre.
Speaking of cameos,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Craven flirted with the idea of asking Johnny Depp to make a walk on in the film,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], (Depp first onscreen appearance was in the original Nightmare), but the shock maven sheepishly decided against it. Depp later said he would have loved the opportunity.
8. Ed Wood Plan Nine From Outer Space (1959) The charmingly incompetent Ed Wood is featured more notably in a number of his other pictures,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but he only merits a bit part in what is widely regarded as the greatest most terrible movie ever made, Plan Nine From Outer Space. Wood is seen reading a newspaper in which the headline, "SAUCERS SEEN OVER HOLLYWOOD" is prominently displayed.
The most fantastic cameo of all-time however is given to the posthumous of the film,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bela Lugosi.
7. George Lucas Revenge of the Sith(2005) There are still a good number of angry Star Wars fans who would have preferred to pay their hard-earned cash to watch Count Dooku decapitate Baron Papanoida than to watch Lucas further destroy their beloved franchise.
Sadly for them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this Pantorian playwright suffered no such fate. Ironically he was portrayed by the man behind the magic and mayhem himself--George Lucas.
5. Harold Ramis Groundhog Day(1993)In the most humorous cameo on the list, Harold Ramis appears as a neurologist in what could be classified as a cleverly subtle sci-fi comedy starring Bill Murray. In the most humorous cameo on the list, Harold Ramis appears as a neurologist in what could be classified as a cleverly subtle sci-fi comedy starring Bill Murray. In the most humorous cameo on the list, Harold Ramis appears as a neurologist Hah! You see what we did there?
4. Ridley Scott Alien (1979) While technically it more puppetry than a cameo, Ridley Scott turn as the newly born face-hugger deserves mention. Apparently Scott was not convinced by the performance of any of the puppeteers so he decided to reward himself with the hand job.
3. Hal Ashby Being There (1979)Ashby is shown in a small uncredited cameo as a man milling about the newsroom in this brilliant satiric take on the tail wagers in our nation capitol. If you haven seen the movie,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you should. To call it the thinking man Forrest Gump does not do it enough service. We cannot recommend this flick highly enough. Peter Sellers is at the top of his game.
2. David Cronenberg The Fly (1986)Cronenberg has enjoyed his time spent on the other side of the camera in a number of his other projects (Shivers, Crash, Videodrome) but his work as the dream sequence obstetrician who helps Geena Davis give birth to an oversized placenta-covered maggot has been indelibly etched into the minds of many a father who point to this scene as the reason they were unable to experience the joy of witnessing the birth of their own children.
1. Sam Raimi The Evil Dead series (1981 - 1993)There doesn seem to be any controversy regarding Raimi cameos as the Fisherman in the original film, or his tiny role as the Soldier in the second of the franchise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but many a flame war has started over whether or not Raimi played the part of in Sweatshirt and Sneakers or if he spoke the line,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "You can count on my steel." (Many swear it Raimi brother Tim.)
We let you fight that out in the comment boxes below. It is a fact that Raimi did speak as the Bad Ash Skeleton, and it also true that Bruce Campbell and his chin are assured a cameo in every Raimi movie for the remainder of their lives.
If you love directors, but wanna see them go at it, check out some of Mania's Vs. Battles. A few months back,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we featured our first Christopher Nolan Vs. Sam Raimi. Soon thereafter, the auteur blood bath got rolling with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg battlin' it out. James Cameron and Peter Jackson also beat the hell out of each other. Finally, with some international action Alfonso Cuaron Vs. Guillermo Del Toro.

Wow, you guys call yourself a genre website and you can't even get Sam Raimi's brothers' correct name? It is Ted Raimi or Theodore Raimi, not Tim. And he played 3 roles in Army of Darkness including the guy who said,"You can count on my steel." It is not that hard to figure out who that is. Sam is slightly chubbier than Ted and has acne scars on his face. Nor did he dub his own voice on that line. I am somewhat of a die hard freak of any Sam Raimi films, so I get a little upset when people screw up the facts. Does anyone even watch the freakin' commentaries that are present on the DVDs? That's the only part that upset me.
