From this type of bumper crop of fascinating science, we asked our readers to explore further in the arena of fiction. And there wasn't any shortage of inspired imaginings: nearly 130 readers submitted activly works to this season science-inspired flash fiction competition. Below is the to begin the five.

Sober bartenders smile dryly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], accepting notes and alter, awaiting the long night to come to its inevitably messy end.
Outside a grainy image outlines a man recently de-blanketed, arms covering his head as young boots tenderise his stomach. A light flicks on above them; mother involves your window,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], baby cries. She shouts in the group below before slamming the shutters closed.
Late night city traders click signals in to the network, produce a shoal of emails; one "Kind regards",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], two "Apologies for the delay" followed by a "Formal written warning". The man at the end of the email queue stands about the edge of the high rise block, looking down past his shoes to cars lining the road [switch to record mode, push feed to news-net]. He looks up,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wind tugging his jacket - steps into nothing.
On the street a policeman looks away,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], winces in the wet crack about the pavement. He nods to his partner who radios for the ambulance crew [static crackles along spine]. They stand together,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], blue lights strobing their faces. Burning coffee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 65p in the cafe's vending machine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], waits for them on the jam sandwich dashboard.
