Blood found on shoes
Police found blood on the shoes of an Erin Mills man accused of killing his "on-again, off-again" girlfriend in a park near her home, jurors were told today.
Peel Regional Police Det. Dale Stansbury, a forensic officer at the time Karina Neff's body was discovered on July 22, 2008, showed jurors in Brampton court a series of chilling photos and a video of the crime scene. Many of the photos showed the body of the 31-year-old woman, who was found face down amid branches and logs in a forested area of Windy Hollow Park,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], east of Erin Mills Pkwy., just off The Collegeway.
Stansbury also showed jurors photos of Osborne's white running shoes, which police later obtained. They had red stains on them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which later tested positive for blood, jurors heard.
Neff,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], also of Erin Mills and who had developmental disabilities, died of asphyxiation from pressure to the face and neck, Crown prosecutor Alex Cornelius said in his opening address to jurors on Monday.
Anne Neff testified that her daughter and the accused had "an on-again, off-again" romantic relationship.
Osborne would visit Neff's home frequently and even accompany her and her family to the cottage, the mother said.
But about three weeks before the murder, Neff's parents forbade Osborne from visiting their home.
Anne Neff testified that although she had no reason to believe Osborne was mentally challenged, she said his behaviour would change quite often,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as if "he was off his medication,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," court heard.
When the Neffs made an exception and allowed Osborne to attend a barbecue at the home two weeks before Karina's death,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Anne Neff said it appeared Karina and Osborne got into an argument, as he left without saying goodbye.
Karina's father, Paul Neff, told jurors Osborne was "the love of her (Karina's) life."
He said he knew something was wrong when,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on the night before the grisly discovery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his daughter left the home with her dog to see another male friend and hadn't returned after an hour.
His concern heightened when the dog returned home without Karina.
"I got this shiver through my body that told me something wasn't right," he said.
After searching the area for about an hour with his nephew,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Paul Neff went to police to report her missing.
He gave them Osborne's phone number and when Cst. David Lewis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the officer who took the missing persons report, called him later that evening, Osborne seemed "calm and cooperative," Lewis testified.
Osborne said he was going to check a few spots, including a nearby Tim Hortons,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lewis said.
"My impression was that he (Osborne) was going to assist in locating . Ms. Neff,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Lewis said.
Police found Karina Neff's body about 12 hours after she disappeared from her parents' Broadhollow Gate home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], only steps from the park.
Cst. Jeff Vanderspek and his canine partner,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bosco, discovered the body the following day.
Vanderspek testified Neff's body was found face down near a tree, her clothes were wet, there was blood around her mouth and her white shirt had been pulled up around her neck.
Neff, a former Applewood Acres Public School and Humber College student, had the intellectual capacity of a 13-year-old, court heard. She worked at Wendy's,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at Mavis Rd. and Central Pkwy., prior to her death.相关的主题文章:
