This is the ‘analogue camera’ or ‘Vinyl Record’ of the printing world. Ie Initial Set up costs are higher, but run on costs are much lower and the print quality is far superior to a digital press. Used for most printing eg. brochures ,Flyers, presentation folders , annual reports, magazinesDigital Printing – this term refers to a digital press, which is effectively an extremely high-end photocopier. A digital press is great for short runs due to no set up costs, but has a relatively high cost per sheet. Colour matching is very difficult on a digital press. Used to produce training manuals, workbooks, short runs of brochures, business cards, drop cards etc.Wide Format Digital Printing – this term refers to a roll fed digital printer, which is capable of very high resolution prints, at sizes only limited by the width of the roll. No set up costs, but a comparatively cost per print. Used for banners, signage, pull up banners, vehicle signage, vinyl stickers etcContinuous Printing – this term refers to the roll fed printing press, a mechanical printing process using blankets, rollers, plates and ink. Similar to the offset press, except that set up costs are higher and run on costs are lower. Used for newspapers and very long run magazines etc.Print Ready PDF – A high resolution PDF file with 3mm Bleed on all edges. 300dpi at true size. Fonts created to curves/outlines. All effects flattened.Bleed – this refers to the 3mm on each edge of extra background that is printed, then trimmed off to ensure the colour runs to the edge. This is only relevant if there is a solid background colour, or photo in the background of your business cards , brochures etc.Digital Proof – This is a digital ‘viewing proof’ that is sent to the client via email. Generally lower resolution than a print ready file for ease of emailing. At this stage the client is taking responsibility that they have carefully checked all spelling, ph numbers etc, and giving approval to proceed with printing of their Posters, Banners, michael kors sale, Letterheads etc.Full Colour – This refers to the CMYK colour spectrum, which is used in 4 colour process. Effectively any colour can be created using varied percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black. This allows for the printing of colour photos, use of as many different colours as desired, and lower costs due to aggregated printing.Spot Colour – This refers to PMS colours, which are traditionally used in 1, 2, 3, colour off set press’. Only the specific colour to be printed is put into the press, so there is no colour mixing. This allows for Metallic colours such as silver and gold, as well as exact colour matching for corporate clients. If you would like to talk to about your next print job in plain English, call Uniprint QLD to organise a quotation on 1300 560 331.
