Cleaning up pee inside shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
They are his absolute favorite shoes, that we had to travel 40 minutes away to an outlet mall to buy. I pulled the inserts out (brand new dr. scholls for back pain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], now we have replace them probably) and shoved a towel inside to dry up any excess liquid. Then I wasn't sure what to do so I put baby powder in them for now. They are leather DC's (skateboarding company) and about $80-$100 normally but we got them on a BOGO sale. More at me than anything because he doesn't like her being in just undies (for this exact reason) so we always put her in undies and then a pullup over. I don't feel like it's doing enough so I was letting her play in just the undies. She's been holding it for 3 hours now and I kept asking if she had to go potty. Her potty watch kept telling her,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but she kept yelling "no". She knows what she's supposed to do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but she suddenly doesn't want to go anymore. I should have seen this coming since she's been holding it. the pee seemed to pool on the inserts so I got most of it out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the fabric on the inside is still damp a little bit. The outside is perfectly fine. I just mentioned it because I can't just throw them in the wash like some sneakers. DH is really grossed out by all kinds of things and even if I can get the shoes to be dry with no smell or any evidence (like darking of the fabric or anything),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he'll still be grossed out by the fact that pee was on his shoes. I'll try the pet urine spray (we use the same thing for carpets and such, I'm just out right now so I didn't even think of that). I won't want to ruin his night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], esp after work, but he'd be even madder if I waited to tell him. Potty training is tough for everyone and the worse thing anyone can do is get upset. They are just shoes! If your hubby gets upset about that then he is not seeing the lighter side of the situation. Imagine the joy you will have to tell her the story about the time she wore Daddy shoes.!! hehe. Ok ok. Its all about having fun in life with a toddler. We have had our share if adventures in Toddlerville.
On a side note- just as one posted- take out the inserts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wash them in the snk with your dish soap. Yup I was tenny shoes all the time- the trick is to throw them in the dryer on low with a towel.
Good luck
Iwashmydaughter's shoes as a result of potty training accidents in the washing machine on the handwash/gentle cycle in cold water with OdoBan and let them air dry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I have washed Stride Ritefabric shoes this way and also took a chance with a pair of leather Stride Rites and they came out just fine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I first take the liners out and hand wash them with dish soap and let them air dry. I use a deodorizor/sanitizer called "OdoBan" that can be purchased at Home Depot. I put a little detergent in the washing machine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], add some OdoBan andset it to handwash/gentle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cold water cycle andthe odors disappear. It is great for washing clothes that have potty smell too.
OdoBan works well on all odors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including pet odors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I use it on mytowels when they get that musty smell from being damp too long in the washer or dryer. It eliminates the odors and doesn't just mask them. OdoBan comes in a ready-to-use sprayor can be purchased in a concentrated gallon and then diluted or used straight. I use the concentrated gallon (about 1/4 cup without dilution)in the washing machine. It is about $1-$2 and gets the stains out of just about anything. If you have any concerns about your own health or the health of your child,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you should always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional.
