Beirut - 'One of the reasons I named the band after that city was the fact that it's seen a lot of conflict. It's not a political position. I worried about that from the beginning. But it was such a catchy name. I mean, if things go down that are truly horrible, I'll change it. But not now. It's still a good analogy for my music. I haven't been to Beirut, but I imagine it as this chic urban city surrounded by the ancient Muslim world. The place where things collide.'
Prefuse 73 - 'The name Prefuse 73 comes from my devotion to pre-fusion jazz circa 1973. A lot of records that I cherish and get the most inspiration from were recorded between '68 and '73.'
No Kids - 'It does contain my initials (Nick Krgovich), and to me represents this kind of weird signifier for certain kinds of people. "You know he's quite a terrific person,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but he lives all alone, no kids, strange really."'

Booka Shade - Walter: It's fiction! When we looked for a project name in the mid-90s for a release on a Dutch label, Touché, we flipped pages in a magazine and came up with "booka" or it may even have been "booker," and something with "shade" on the other page. We just thought it sounded good. In the beginning, many people thought we might come from Asia, because the name has this Asian touch.
The Ting Tings - 'I used to work with a girl named Ting Ting. She told me in Mandarin it meant an old bandstand in a park. I thought it was just a beautiful visual name.'

Hercules and Love Affair - Andy Butler: It was taken directly from a Greek myth. Growing up I was always fascinated by Greek myth. I read them all the time and when I went to college I studied representations of homosexuality in Ancient Greek art. Hercules was reputed to also have male lovers not just female lovers. There's particularly one story where he brings his young lover Hylas along on a big journey. They stop off on an island and on the island his young lover gets kidnapped by river nymphs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Hercules is left trying to find his lover on this island.
For me it was interesting to see the strongest man on earth at his most vulnerable. I gravitated towards this paradox. I came out when I was 15. That was also the when I first got into dance clubs and started to date DJs. I was in this big masculine body, I played football and other sports and at the same time I was extremely sensitive and emotionally vulnerable. I was attracted by the Hercules story because it was about embracing the femine within the hyper masculine. There's also a tradition of Greek references in house music. Derrick Carter named some of his songs after really obscure Greek characters. And then you have DJs who would name themselves after Greek characters such as Adonis. And Hercules was also Marshall Jefferson's alternative name.

We Are Scientists - are not scientists; Keith Murray: It came from right when we graduated from college. We had moved up to San Francisco and were dropping off the U-Haul van that we had rented. You know how the guy comes out and gives the least possible inspection of the vehicle to make sure it still has wheels and stuff like that? He came out and was half doing his job and half trying to make conversation. We were all standing around. We were skinny,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], really dorky, bespectacled and pretty weak-looking. He asked if we were all brothers, and we reported that we were not in fact brothers. He paused and looked us up and down again, and he asked,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],"Well, are you scientists?" as if it followed logically. It had to be one of those two to explain our look. So we stupidly told him that we were not scientists. Now I kind of wish we had just lied and gone on a riff about our work in nanotech. We sort of decided that would be a nice band name. So we formed the band so that there would be a band with that name.

Why did the band decide on the band name The National?
Matt: When anyone's coming up with a band name, it was one of those things. We were trying to find a name that didn't mean anything. That was sort of devoid of any kind of interpretation and wasn't overly clever. It's just very simple. And that was the simplest thing we could think of just because it is so. You can't walk down the street without seeing the word "The National" something or other somewhere. So it was benign and meaningless; that's kind of why we picked it. Although that backfired a little bit because we went to Europe-we probably should have thought of this ahead of time-but Nationalism has a very right wing connotation, especially in Germany, France and . the Nationalists and the National Front and all that kind of stuff. So in Germany, we actually had some shows boycotted because they thought we were in someway affiliated with the right wing conservative neo-Nazi party,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which we had to do some press to make sure people realized that we were not associated with the Nazis. The band name,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's kind of funny, when we started out, we would probably name it something else but we're stuck with it and I'm happy with it.

There's a band called Pullman from Chicago, and they had a song on their first album called Gravenhurst that is rural and idyllic sounding. I think it's a place in Canada, and there's hamlet or two in England, Upper and Lower Gravenhurst. I quickly needed a name for the solo stuff I'd started doing and I thought it sounded mysterious. It's weird because it's had various interpretations; I think it was Claire Sturgess who thought it sounded like a Death Metal band,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but that's okay because I like quite a lot of Death Metal. In fact in Virgin they put the album in the Metal section, unfortunately. Someone else thought it was a Goth Revival band because it sounds like Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast. I once phoned up a listings magazine and the reception wrote down the band name as 'Grave and Hearse'. Gravenhurst actually suggests a sanctuary on a hill; a 'Hurst' is a group of trees on a hillside; 'Graven' is archaic English for written,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], suggesting a rural monastic retreat, as it was primarily monastic orders that were literate back then. But I didn't know any of this at the time, a sound engineer told me about it, and it fitted much better than I realised.

Was da ja auch nicht steht - sondern wie bereits aus dem Link hervorgeht:
The National Film Board of Canada (usually National Film Board or NFB) is Canada's public film producer and distributor. An agency of the Government of Canada, the NFB produces and distributes socially relevant films that inform Canadians and explore global issues.
Von daher sollte es da eigentlich kein Missverständnis geben,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The Killers - Mark Stoermer: 'We were watching this video "Crystal" by New Order and the video had this band who looked all hot in it, pretending to be New Order but they were known as The Killers. We saw that name on the drummer's kick drum head and lifted it.'相关的主题文章:
